What is the big difference between children of today and children of yesterday?

You remember when you were a child you’d go outside and play and not wear any type of protection when you rode your bike? How about when you would go outside and be gone all day and come home in the afternoon to eat dinner? What has changed so much in the last 30 years that we can no longer do that? Now if your 10 year old goes outside by there selves then there is a chance that cps will be called. To me I think that there’s just as much evil today as there was yesterday here. The only difference is the amount of media that is available at your fingertips. What are your comments on this? Do you believe as I do or are there other things working in the dark?

  1. It’s not much different than riding your bike, now versus then.

Back in the day we just got on our bike and had fun. Today, if your child is not wearing a helmet you are breaking the law.

We used to skateboard however we wanted. Today, you need a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and you have to go to a skate park where there is staff that tells you what you can and can’t do.

We all survived and some of my scrapes and bruises were good lessons…

What will the next generations bring?

    All kids in a bubble????

I too have found myself wondering about the good ol days…Growing up we rode bikes, motorcycles, 4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, and skated without todays safety gear….

Any game that involved a ball would be played by all kids in the neighborhood. You were allowed to run as long as you were within shouting distance..When the sun started to fall and porch lights came on you better get in the house.

Playing outdoors was a requirement. If you were bored you were to play until you weren’t….when it rained you got wet! As kids we created mudslides that would guarantee some dirty clothes, scrapes and bruises, and more importantly the kind of fun you tell stories about.

I feel the biggest loss to todays kids will be the lack of childhood stories that are fueled by imagination, invention, transformed boredom, and driven by all they had until they pooped out.
