Which side of the fine line do you stand on?
Sometimes it can be hard to see the fine line that is present between constructive criticism and a critic’s opinion. Recently I began building allspiceandadvice.com. Luckily I have full support from those around me in my newest venture and yet the picking in fun has already begun…there was a comment left for me a couple days after going live by the mastermind behind thinkingoutloudlounge.com that said: You know, it drives me nuts when I see blogs that don’t even have posts aside from the default one. When are you going to post some content???
As you can imagine I couldn’t help but laugh and vow to return the favor.
There’s nothing wrong with receiving a gentle nudge when it’s purpose is to help you achieve what your after.
On the other hand I have also seen when it goes horribly wrong. Recently I saw an episode of Top Model where one of the girls had presented a bit of attitude and well a basic disregard for authority. At the end of the show they are judged on the assignment given, on who they are, and how they carry themselves. Upon standing in front of the judges her behaviors were addressed first with the intentions of preventing a possible lag in her career. She stood at the end of the catwalk as they issued their reviews. Until she just started to unravel from having felt personally attacked. Followed by a child’s grade temper tantrum for all the world to see. In short she removed herself from the competition. The greatest shame was she had actually done well on the task that was assigned and would have been able to continue on.
I know how hard it can be to have another person judge you or your intentions!
The thing to keep in mind is that an outside view (even one you don’t care for) can make you see the same thing in a different light and create a better outcome. So when you feel someone is picking you apart ask yourself which side of the fine line are you viewing the information from?
Sincerely
Savoury
Well said Savoury!
It can be hard at times, but if the person receiving the guidance and advice doesn’t check their ego at the door then it was all for nothing.
